Austrapest's pest inspection, report and proposal are the first step. As part of our recommended action plan or more complete treatment we may offer an option to dust the active termites. This is an historical method of termite control in Australia and has been used successfully since Federation. Dusting active termites is a highly skilled approach which exploits termites natural grooming and cannabalism of dead termites. The dust particles are passed on to other termites or taken back to the nest. The aim is to destroy the colony. The method is favoured by some clients as only a small amount of toxicant is used and it is a relatively inexpensive option compared to traditional barrrier treatments or baiting systems. Dusting has a 50/50 success rate and Austrapest strongly recommend to use it in combination with a chemical barrier treatment such as Premise® from Bayer or Termidor® from BASF. photos courtesy of Adam Legey@Austrapest There are some choices in products 1. Arsenic trioxide - This product is a very toxic compound but used properly and in very small amount is not a major concern for the homeowner (usually one gram only is used to control an infestation). zz

This kind of work must be complimented with - Essential regular monthly to three monthly follow inspections and monitoring stations or Austrapest's Bait boxes which form a more integrated approach to termite management. - A tradional chemical barrier to Australian Standard 3660.2-2000 using Premise ® from Bayer or Termidor ® from BASF.
